Golden light

Sometimes you don't need to go further than your own kitchen. I was cleaning up and noticed how nice the light from the window aligned on the wall. The more I look at this the more I like it - the shadows, how the light reflects on the table, how the the wall slightly is tinted red by the indirect light bounced from the book etc. So much details in a simple everyday scene.

Moody Malmö

I haven't shot much since we came back from travelling in South East Asia earlier this year. Everything looked so dull and boring at home compared to the places we visited and people we saw. I almost fell victim for GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) but then it struck me. I don't lack gear/stuff but I lack opportunity. Anyway autumn is here and the city goes through a wonderful moody transformation.

Personal favorites from southeast Asia 2017

In this post I've collected my personal favorites from a 3 month travel in Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam. All shots are taken using a small Fujifilm X100T compact camera (more about the camera at the bottom of this page). The idea with the below presentation is not to document the trip in a structured way but rather to show glimpses of it and convey the feeling of it - they way I want to remember it. If you want to see more shots, categorized per country then you can find them via the menu to the right. Feel free to comment or ask questions about travelling to those locations.

About the Fujifilm X100T.

As mentioned at the top of this page all shots are taken using a Fujifilm X100T compact camera. I'm not going to try to convince anybody about what camera to purchase but here's a couple key points that are important to me personally for the type of photos I like to shoot.

The X100T
  • is small and discrete. I like travelling light and I can bring it everywhere.
  • is robust. I have it loose in a shoulder bag. No half-case, no lenshood, no lenscap. Just a UV-filter attached so I easily can whipe off sand, sea-salt, sun-blocker and other stuff that covers the camera during trips.
  • The 23mm 2.0f lens is excellent. The lens is fast enough for low-light shots and also provides enough DOF when needed.
  • The electronical viewfinder provides me with immediate feedback about how the shot will turn out.
  • Out of camera JPGs are excellent. No need for extensive post production. I usually shoot in JPG in "Normal" quality.
